The ‘Culinary Series’Â of winemaker dinners here at The Rees Hotel in Queenstown often sell out within days of being released and are the brainchild of rising star Chef, Ben Batterbury of True South Dining Room overlooking the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
Six times a year, we host aÂ gathering of like minded food and wine lovers in a low key and relaxingÂ atmosphere to enjoy genius creations from a ChefÂ who getsÂ a kick out ofÂ the culinary challenge of harmonisingÂ aromatic flavoursÂ with exquisite vintagesÂ – with his signature twist.
Invited winemakers personally hold a tasting that’sÂ matched with a fiveÂ course degustation journey.Â No-one knows what Chef will reveal untilÂ they’re servedÂ onÂ the night. Guests are entertained withÂ plenty of talesÂ from the kitchenÂ both by Chef andÂ our guest winemaker.
The Culinary Series is about, â€śthree things really, itâ€™s about great wine, great food and having fun. We try to keep them quite relaxed its not all wine toffs coiffing and deliberating. Itâ€™s about giving people the chance to drink some great wines that may not be readily available and some slightly crazy food that should make everyone talk about it. There is ofÂ course some soundÂ knowledge to be gained from meeting the winemakers,â€ťÂ says Chef Ben.
PastÂ eventsÂ have starred the finest drops fromÂ Craggy Range in Hawkes Bay, Mishas Vineyard in Central Otago, Kumeu River in Auckland and Millton Wines of Gisborne, along with a hand-picked selection from otherÂ critically acclaimed,Â premium wineries.
In the past, our guests haveÂ enjoyed the company of esteemedÂ Judges and winemakers; Olly Masters, Michael Brajkovich and James Millton. All ourÂ Culinary Series have been roaring successes selling out in record time,Â attracting media attention and proving popular from first ticket release.
The nextÂ Culinary SeriesÂ will be held on 1st OctoberÂ and is a doubleÂ billing, showcasing the best of the New World wine from Escarpment in Martinborough and Bilancia in the Hawkes Bay. Well knownÂ winemakers, Larry McKenna and Warren Gibson are flying in especiallyÂ for the night and no doubtÂ will keep guests enthralled!
